How to Work Out Without Going to the Gym

We live in a hectic world and with such a busy schedule that includes work, family, social life; it’s pretty hard to find time to take care of yourself. However, it’s important to squeeze in those activities that will worth while in the long run. We’re talking about exercising.

Between the traffic and overtime, the last thing you’re probably concerned about is how to get to the gym. What if you don’t have to get to the gym? Working out at home is the best way to save both time and money and exercise in a relaxing manner. Now you can get the body you’ve always wanted in the comfort of your own living room.

There are classic workouts that you can do from the comfort of your own living room and there are activities cut out of your daily routine that you can get a use out of to get in shape. We’ve picked 10 out for you to do starting today.

Classic workouts:

1. Jumping jacks

It’s a fine way to warm up before getting into the hard stuff and also to get you in the mood to work out. Who hasn’t done this for a laugh as a child. Perform it for 15 minutes and you have yourself a good cardio training. Make sure you stretch a little before hand.

2. Jump rope

Another childhood game turned into an intense cardio exercise. If you don’t have a rope or no space to practice, try miming the whole thing. Hold your hand by your sides at hip level and bounce on your feet pretending to jump an imaginary rope. It may feel silly at first, but you’ll get the hang of it once you start feeling the burn.

3. Push ups

You probably wouldn’t have added them on your list, but it’s one of the best way to build and strenghten your arm muscles. There are several way you can do a push up, however, if you’re new at this you can start by doing them on your knees, instead of keeping your legs straight. Another way is to lean up against the wall. Our advice is to gradually raise the amount each day, as you get used to them.

4. Running

There’s nothing like a good run in the morning to give you a boost of energy all day long. You can burn an average 100 calories per mile, refresh your immune system and improve your memory by jogging everyday.

5. Sit ups

This is another great exercise that you can do almost anywhere, even on your lunch break. It will define and tone your abdominal muscles and give you the much desired six-pack. Lie down on the floor, knees bend and arms crossed on your chest and raise your body up to meet your legs. Mix them up with the push ups and your body will shape up amazingly.

6. Parking

Tomorrow morning when you get to the office forget about your usual spot. Try parking a few blocks away and simply walk. You can do this as well when going to the mall or supermarket or anywhere else, don’t park to close to the entrance. Carry a pair of flat shoes or sneakers in your car. Heels aren’t recommended and you can change quickly once you get to your destination.

7. Up the stairs

You don’t need any fancy equipment to get a cool workout, when you have your house at your disposal. Going up and down the stairs is one way to tone your leg muscle and you can do it in your own rythim: running or just go up multiple steps in a stride. Make sure you stretch first and be careful not to trip. Also, instead of the elevator, try taking the stairs everytime.

8. Housework

Are you dreading the dishes in the sink or the messy closet? You won’t anymore, because this may very well become your fat burning time. Sweeping or mopping can burn up to 240 calories per hour, while mowing the lawn takes 300 calories off. If you’d rather keep close to the kitchen, then know that cooking burns 150 calories an hour. Put your apron on and get in shape!

9. Chores

Grocery shopping, washing the car, walking the dog, cleaning up after a party are all ways to exercise. You just need to find the potential of a good, clean workout, even in the activities you don’t really enjoy doing. Set your mind on burning calories and the idea of chores will seem more enjoyable than ever.

10. Dancing

Finally, there’s no better way to lose weight and have fun like dancing the night way. It increases your flexibility, tones up your legs and but and, of course, gets rid of those bad calories. You don’t even have to go out, put your headphones on and party in front of the mirror. Keep moving for at least an hour. Remember to have fun!
